What do you like about American manners? What do you dislike?

While I am staying the UWEC, I am really startled by classroom etiquete bettween student and teacher. Unlike our country, the relationship between student and teacher is less formal than our country do. I think that American students do not have a difficulty to express thier opinions against teacher's during the class. Teacher, also, does not seem to dislike this kind of behavior. Instead, teacher encourage students to express their opinions. However, in our country, it is normally accepted that even if teacher's opinion is different from my opinion, we should not prevail our opinion against teacher because we believe that it is so rude. Due to this kind of education environment in the USA, most American students would have a more progressive attitude toward their class.

I don't understand ther reason why I have to pay 'Tip' in restaurant. I heard that paying tip is an expression about receiving a good serving. I also agree that paying tip is a good manner but it makes customer uncomfortable. In our country, the tip is included in the price of food. Therefore, we do not need to consider how much we have to pay for tip and the worker who serves food also do not need to care the money which they will receive from customer because they will receive their serving fee from employer.

Throughout history, millions of people have died trying to keep a particular piece of land part of their country. Would you give your life for that purpose? Why or whynot?
In June 25, 1950, the war, which named Korean war now, broke out between South Korea and North Korea. Due to this war, more than 4 million South Korean dead or wounded. From this result, a lot of people lost one of their family and they lived with unbearable sorrow during the rest of their life. It should not have occured among one nation. Honestly, I also don't want to experience this accident confronting against a same race. However, if the war will break out again, I sacrifice my life to fight against the enemy. I think that most people agree my opinion if they also experienced like our country. It's not just for getting a more land but to fight for protecting my family and friends from encounting danger.

What have you observed about our Easter Holiday? What have you learned through conversations/experience about Easter? What have you observed about its themes? What significance does Easter have for most Americans? Why do you think this?

As I am a christian, I already knew the meaning of Easter. However, it is suprised that the USA keeps the Easter day as officiall holiday. Regardless of their religion, most Korean know Easter egg. In our country, Cristian give Easter egg to atheist with telling about the Easter egg. As all most things are nearly same, I don't realized much difference between two countries. When I went to the Shopko, I realized that lilly also gets the meaning of the the Easter. And I heard that people think that lilly symboilze purity, virtue, innocence, hope and life of the spiritual essence of Easter because of their beautiful trumpet-shaped and white flowers. I could see that most American get together at church or their house in Easter day and they have a time to praise Easter day together and to share its meanings with others because I think that Americans might consider that their religion and family are the most important things in their life.

What if a person's religion requires an act that the government considers illegal?
Which is more important-obeying the laws of one's country or one's religion?

In my opnion, if we meet the situation of confrontation between law and religious fatih, we have to consider that law is more important than each person's religious faith. Most countries have their own law to retain the system in thier society . By obeying our law in country, we can enjoy civil rights and keep the integration under the dealing people with equlity.
Although it exists another case that one country has each of their state laws such as the USA, most countries are managed by one law whether federal or central law. However, it can be possible that one contry have a lot of regilion. Many countryies have a problem which is struggled with thier law and religious faith.

Let's assume the extreme case that one religion forces their believer to kill people who believe other religion. Most countries government consider that this behavior is illegal. In addition, the goverment might prohibit this kind of religious behavior becasue that we normally consider that each person's life is more important than indiviual religious faith. Sometimes, religion forces thier particular faith for believer to do. However, the law is made by under the common sense and principle. So, the law is appled to most people and our behavior is judged by law because that we consider that the law is underlying basis for judgement.

What observation did you make in the movie, "Separate But Eaqul" that depict the unequal treatment of African American?

In the film, we can find many discrimination foward African American. Both White and Black are studied on the same education system. However, Despite Black is able to learn in there, all their surroundings are different from White.

African American's school is located in the suburbs. The school is small, just 1st floor and it doesn't have any facilities for helping better education. Their toliet is located in the outside and their just one teacher have to check everyday that his students carry their pencils. And the students have to walk 5 or 6 miles everymoning from their home to school. They don't have a bus. They need only one bus for making their students study under the better situation.

Unlike African American, White students study under good situation. tThier school is big and located in the downtown. Many teachers teach them differently depend on student's abilitities. They have 3 bus for transporting their students from home to school.

The black struggle against the Constitution of the USA for getting equal protection beacuse of they are no different from others. For black to have the same education, they need to money. However, It is virtually impossible for black to being treated like white because most black live in the poor situation.

#2. The goal of parenting in America is to make children competent and confident enough to "leave the nest." What do you think of this philosophy? Compare and contrast this philosophy of raising children with that of your country.

In the animal's world, most parents let their babies leave from their nest when they have the ability to survive outside. I think the parents' behavior makes the babies self-reliant for surviving alone. If the animal parents keep raising their baby under their protection, babies can't get fed by themselves, even worse, they would not be able to adjust in their world. Finally, they might disappear in the animal's world.

That can be applied to human world. I think the philosophy about making their children self-reliant is the most important reason which makes America the most influence country in the world. After leaving the protection of parents, most Americans improve the abilities to survive alone in the society which are related to both economical growth and mental growth. From their given abilities, they can easily do business outside of their country and develop the new technology and science field such as the bio-industry and the aerospace industry.

Unlike American parents, most of our country's parents raise their children under excessive protection. They get the financial supporting from their parents in their college days as well as after gradution. Due to such social atmosphere, some Koreans don't try to be self-reliant in terms of economical situation. If parents stop the financial supporing, they would undergo the financial problem and discursive emotion. In order to overcome those social problems, we need to learn self-reliance from America.

Should states provide free services-such as education and health care- to illegal aliens and their children?

I think it is not easy to select only one side. Most people who stay outside of the USA think that the USA is the land of opportunity. In other words, it means that they can achieve their goals and success in the USA. Since first immigrants came to America, they were offered many good opportunities by the USA government. Especially education and health care were given to  them to improve their quality of life further.

By the way, It also makes side-effects. As anybody wants to come into the USA, the number of illegal aliens continuously has increased. by the increasing number of illegal immigrants, it has brought about many crimes and social problems. According to a saying that  all Humans are treated equally, they must be offered free education and health care. However, I don't agree that such free services should be offered mandatorily. They stay illegally in the USA. Thus, they don't pay any taxes and fulfill any obligations. They really stay in the USA for free like as free rider. Therefore, if they are offered that service, they would even take it for granted.

In conclusion, If that service are offered depending on certain rules, I would agree with that opinion.

Q.#1

Do you think wealth and possessions make a person important? If not, what does?

-Most of people considers wealth is important in their life. From the money, they can pursue their physical needs but also sometimes, they can get an emotional satisfaction. However, it's not mean every-time.

Even though wealth is important in the life, but it is not enough for living. Above all, getting an emotional satisfaction is much more important. Sometimes, we have heard the news that some of the rich feels unhappy in their life or even killed themselves. What makes them do such behavior? Mabye, they does not content with their life in the way of an emotional satisfaction.

All people feel the feelings. The rich also feel all kind of feelings such as a lonely and frustration. How they overcome and stay their feelings stable are most needed to get an emotional satisfaction. Money might make more comfortable life. however, peolpe never can live only with physical satisfaction. Therefore, people have to pursue both phycial and emotional satisfaction for their affluent life
